In 2015, the entertainment/media marketing research company where I worked announced that it would be downsizing a bunch of people including me. I quickly reached out to the USC Alumni Clubs around Los Angeles. At a networking event in Century City I met 2 important people: Freddy (a Professor of Communications at USC who is an invaluable source of information and a connection to current students in need of mentors and jobs) and Raul (who works in my line of work, geographic area and industry). Raul not only connected me with his H.R. department, but also introduced me to the USC Alumni Club of San Fernando Valley where I was quickly incorporated onto the board as the Business Development Liaison. Basically, allowing me to work (as a volunteer) in an area that supported my job search and networking while raising funds and spreading the mission of the Club.

At the San Fernando Valley Board Meetings I met and have gotten to know Herbert Ferguson (Immediate Past President 2014-16). Herbert has managed a wonderfully organized and action packed schedule with game watching parties at Buffalo Wild Wings, community service opportunities, and culturalevents around the Valley (which implies his prowess for coordinating and collaborating with the USC Alumni Association leadership, the Club Board members, new and continuing Club members and Trojan Alumni).

Within the Club, I have met colleagues and friends, and have been offered work opportunities and professional support that I would never have otherwise realized. In fact, I am truly grateful to Anne Krall (another former President of the Club, current Events Chair, and USC Ambassador) for her offer to pay the price of a ticket to a Club fundraising event that I was, at that time, unable to afford. Also, Dana Zinderman (current Game Watching Chair), who immediately put my resume into the mix for interviews with her organization and taught me the Club event organizing ropes. And, the team participation of all the Board Members to successfully pull off so many events in the past year. I am proud to be an active participant, and now a leader, of such a proactive and inspirational group of people.

As the newly installed President of the Club, I will continue Herbert’s work in providing service to all Trojans with commitment and dedication. As an alumni leader and a representative for alumni in the San Fernando Valley, my personal goals are to engage San Fernando Valley Trojans and pay forward the support that I received in addition to delivering entertaining, engaging, and deliver innovative events that will encompass the spectrum of Trojan demographics and interests in the San Fernando Valley. Together, we will continue the tradition of raising funds and delivering academic scholarships to deserving Trojan students from our Valley.

With this committed Board, and your continued support, we can grow the organization as a useful and powerful Trojan network while implementing the Club mission. Today, I am honored and privileged to have been elected President to the Trojan Alumni in the San Fernando Valley. I admire past and present Board members and only hope to be able to live up to their high standards and success.

I look forward to meeting and speaking with you at Club events. Should you require further information please do not hesitate to make contact.

Thank you, and FIGHT ON!
